Asthma Prevalence in Adolescent Students from a Portuguese Primary and Secondary School

Asthma is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases worldwide, with a considerable increase, especially in children. It considered main cause childhood morbidity, school absenteeism, and limitations sports practice. The causes are multifactorial, their prevalence varies from region to region, thus verifying great disparity estimates asthma. In this sense, objective study investigate asthma, its control, as well frequency associated symptoms, adolescents who attended 3rd cycle basic education secondary schools municipalities Paços de Ferreira, Paredes, Penafiel. sample consisted 1222 (587 males 635 females) (p = 0.17) aged between 12 17 years. instruments used diagnose asthma-associated symptoms were standard questionnaire “International Study Allergies Childhood—ISAAC” check whether asthma was controlled, “Test for Control” used. results reveal high (8.9%) significant percentage that did not have disease under control (38%).
